[NOTE TO OUR READERS] For Gay Activist Roskoff, Ego Trumps Equality

Dear readers,

After evaluating a letter from the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, I've determined that I mistakenly published a factual error regarding the legal structure and operations of the club. I would never do so knowingly, and I sincerely regret the error.

I've issued a full and unwavering apology to the Club and its board.

As for the original piece, I think there were some good and valid points in it, and it will be republished in this space after its re-fact-checked and reworked.

Thanks for understanding,

Greg Palmer

Excellent article. A cursory analysis of the Prop 8 debacle in Cali will show a similar pattern of Gay activists whose personal agendas trumped the possibility of advancing the cause they supposedly were fighting for. The community needs to weed out these parasitical activists. Fear of exposing gay misdoing in the public spotlight keeps many important issues from receiving the results they deserve.

Both the article and the first comment are beautifully stated.
And the comment is correct: this is exactly what happened here in California.--Equality CA stood by and did nothing while the Mormon church spent $80 million to get Prop 8 passed. After the marriage ban indeed passed, thousands of LGBTs complained that the No on 8 people shut them out of a campaign they hoped to support.
Here's a personal story:
my ex, on SSI for mental illness, lives with a "Christian" family who tampers with his mail & got him to sign falsified documents.
When his Mom passed away, mutual friends of ours sent him condolence cards, which were returned behind his back.
I turned to gay rights groups for help in putting a stop to this--most of whom responded by making fun of the fact that he and I are not together.
I was also subjected to provably false hate blogs at Truth Wins Out and the Phoenix New Times, these blogs were written by gay writers who actually lied about seeing the documentation I presented.
This appears to be typical of how our current crop of leaders behave.
But we can fight back:
I've accepted an invitation from Marriage Equality USA to share my story as part of their Loving Quilt and Story Projects--my story, included how the "community" treated me, will be made public, and will be archived by Marriage Equality at the SF Public Library & the Library of Congress in DC--I'm doing a 40 minute audio interview for the Story Project tomorrow.
Many, many others are speaking up as well.

Far too many of our current organizations have been hijacked by bullies and control freaks who don't care who they have to hurt in order to hold onto their sick little kingdoms.
They only have as much power as we give them.

We have far too many
