Eating Out, to the Tune of $1,200 a Month

Manhattanites spend a lot on dining out, but ever wonder how much? Be prepared for a shock - if you live in Gramercy/Murray Hill, the answer is nearly $1,200 a month on average. And for the top ten percent of spenders, that's just a drop in the bucket compared to the nearly $3,000 they spend on dining each month.

Grub Street did a nice breakdown:

Using the Department of Health's zip codes by neighborhood, we ran all of the city's zips through this nifty little tool and discovered that New Yorkers spend anywhere from $25 per month (Brownsville) to $2,398 (Rockefeller Center) on eating out. That latter figure is an anomaly, since Rock Center's zip code is tiny. But consider the residents of the Upper East Side's tony 10028 zip, who spent $1,136 in December, with average purchases of $53 -- the upper 90th percentile of those spenders blew $2,919 in restaurants last December. Keep in mind that doesn't even include grocery shopping. Check out the rest of the results.
