Former state Senator Hiram Monserrate lost his bid to re-enter the Senate today in a special election where he faced Assemblyman Jose Peralta. Peralta, who is by far the more progressive of the two candidates, beat Monserrate 67 - 27 percent. The results of the election were being closely watched as Monserrate was ejected from the Senate by his peers last month following his conviction on domestic violence charges.
Monserrate was convicted in October of a misdemeanor in connection with an incident where he dragged his girlfriend through her apartment building. Although he was acquitted of more serious assault charges, the conviction led to his expulsion."You can't judge someone just because one mistake they might have made during their life," he said.
He believes that he will be re-elected based on his experience...
If Monserrate loses, he has said he might go after Peralta's Assembly seat, which would become vacant, or he could choose to run again for the Senate in November.
HA! Please, please, please run again in November or run for Peralta's old seat. See what good it does you.

Glad to see Hiram lose this one, and I'm hoping he realizes that maybe politics isn't a good future for him.
