27 Arrested in Drug Raid on Bronx Housing Project

Psychoactive drugs.

My inner cynic is sort of agreeing with the 71-year-old quoted at the end of this story. Won't these dealers just be right back, or replaced by others?

Residents of the hardscrabble houses were relieved that what they described as an open-air drug market was shuttered - at least for now.

"It's about time they did something to the bums," said Joe Demattis, 83, who has lived in the housing project for more than 30 years.

Cops said they seized 800 bags of crack, a gram of heroin and 100 bags of marijuana. They are still searching for four more suspects, they said.

One resident said she could hear the brazen dealers outside her window soliciting customers during the night.
